Can I use this cooling backpack with an abaya or kandura (thobe)?
Yes, but only after you (or your tailor) have made a small opening (horizontal rectangle 8.5 cm x 2.5 cm) in your garment at this location: in the back, below the waist and above the belt. To close back this opening when not in use: a ribbon and some hook-and-loop fastener is a simple option. This opening is important for the "Air return" (recycling air from the Waist Air Collector to the Backpack).
Can I use this cooling system with a one-piece construction suit (coverall)?
Same answer as to the previous question: if the protective garment is a one-piece suit, you will need to get the same opening as in previous question. This opening is obviously not needed with a construction suit in two pieces (trouser and vest).
How long before the battery and the ice-pack-cartridges need a recharge?
The battery
The fully charged battery can provide 2-2.5 hours of continuous fan operation before you need to plug in the charger.
The 2 cartridges (10 ice packs)
The fully chilled cartridges can provide powerful air cooling (and drying) for 1 hour and longer if your garment protects (insulates) you well from outside weather or less time if you are engaging in any heat-generating activity (running, etc.). In all cases, even if the cartridges become less frosty, the skin's natural cooling power will persist (unlike for many cooling vests) thanks to the continuous air circulation.
Optionally, if you wish to instantly extend the cooling time by ice packs, without waiting for the recharge (re-freeze) of the ice packs, you can buy and keep ready (freeze) an extra pair of cartridges: ready to replace the used ones and adding immediately 1++ hour of normal use. And if you would like a third pair of cartridges, you should consider buying also a second rechargeable battery (170 grams), which can easily connect to the blower unit and immediately add 2-2.5 more hours of fan operation.
Tip 1: Avoid cooling yourself too much at the beginning, by simply playing with the pull-switch: to stop and start the fan several times. This will also save some cooling power and extend the total cooling time.
Tip 2: If you prefer moderate cooling, use only 1 cartridge at a time and keep frozen the second cartridge, ready for immediate cooling time extension when replacing the first one.
Tip 3: A thermal bag / cooler (not provided) can help carrying additional frozen cartridges to have them available if needed.
What is the cost of maintenance of this cooling system?
Very low cost! The cost of the electricity to run a freezer and to recharge the battery. Period.
Very low maintenance: if necessary clean with a soft cloth slightly dampened with lukewarm water. After each use, you just have to :
- put the 2 cartridges (the 10 ice packs) into a freezer (to keep them ready for future uses),
- connect the blower unit to the battery charger (to be ready for future uses),
- empty the container of the accumulated water,
- let wet parts dry and store in a dry place.
